Thanksgiving Poem 2020

Thanksgiving is the national holiday

For Canada and the USA.

This year 2020 on November 26 it will fall

This pandemic year will it change at all?

Traditionally recalling the harvest feast

Of 1621

The Plymouth Pilgrims gave thanks at their steeple

Joined by the tribe of Wampanoag people

Yet history tells a different story

That had little glee or similarity.

For millions though this day has become

A time to share and gather round

A feast filled table with friends and family

Time to return to the home ground.

A change however is now advised

A  big “No, No “ has been televised

“Stay home and protect your family”.

Thanks, CDC and Dr Fauci.

A 'Zooms-giving' instead will be in mind

And the Macys parade will be on-line

Yet this situation is not undefined

In 1918 there was a quarantine message too:

“Stay safe, stay home and don’t catch the flu”

So if you are having turkey and all the trimmings

Have a lovely day, a great time and enjoy your feast

But do please keep your loved ones’ safety

In your mind at the very least.
