Christmas
Christmas
Is coming
And soon will be here
Long awaited hope for this time of year
Feasting, family, friends
And good cheer
All is ready to
Move up
A gear
Sadness
For many it has instead
A lonely, bereaved and nostalgic tread.
Isolation, loss of loved ones, little gladness and tears
Lack of love no glimpse of magic,
Just full of fears
Lights
On trees
Wreaths on the door
Baubles and bells and tinsel and more.
Excitement and laughter with jokes, joy and fun
Alcohol or abstinence something there for everyone!
Worries
Words in anger sharing
Fear of abuse, debt and nobody caring.
A window of five days to lift pandemic woe
Yet after Christmas new worries of will the death toll grow?
Feelings
Running high
Peaking at moments now
It is a time to reflect sitting at the table
As cards are written then posted with parcels too
Where this year has gone
And what did we do?
Hope
Shines and sparkles
Optimism of what better things
Will happen to opportunities that next year brings?
A Baby born poor, resting in a stable
Yet proclaimed king
As hope eternal
Springs
Peace
Goodwill to all
Enjoying a holiday break now
Winter solstice is celebrated
Darkness takes its annual bow.
Gracefully and gradually
It relinquishes its hold
Light growing daily
Ushering in the New Year
Exiting the Old
Choice
Is ours
To show in our attitude
That this Christmas time is for sharing
Be you woman, man, girl or boy
Remember Gratitude is the heart of
Joy
